Rose Bowl suckage, Post UPPP & Septoplasty

Michigan sucked it up in the Rose Bowl. It's humiliating. It's horrendous. Just bad.

I'm more concerned about the suckage going on in my face, though. On the second, I had some surgery. I had a septoplasty and a UPPP (which stands for Uvulopalatial... um... something... plasty) in an effort to fix my sleep apnea. I wound up having to stay over one night in the hospital, and now I'm back at my parents house. (I'm extremely lucky to have them around to help me recover. I'm definitely not taking their aid for granted.)

Recovery kinda sucks, though. Essentially, my life rotates around a four-hour schedule, because every four hours I get to have more pain meds. In the time leading up to medication-time, the pain really gets fierce. Right now I'm half-an-hour from getting to suck that stuff down again, and writing this little post is probably the best way for me to suffer the least amount of pain. Normally watching TV is good, but it's late, and I was starting to fall asleep. I don't want to fall asleep, because then my throat dries out.

See... the worst part about the pain cycle is actually taking the meds. I have to water the stuff down (I won't mention it by name... mostly because I don't know how to spell it offhand) because it stings. And since I haven't taken the meds in 4 hours, swallowing hurts the most right when I take it. Two gulps of painful pain medication, then about half an hour later I'm feeling quite a bit better.

My biggest fear right now is my tongue. It feels very strange. There are some bumps that could be lacerations or scars of some sort. I don't know whether I bit myself really hard during surgery or what, but it's definitely awkward. I have a post-op appt on Monday, so I'll ask the doctor about it then.

Having said that, afaict, the surgery was a success. My doctor was very good and the BU Medical Center staff was all excellent. A few things could have been better, but I'm also a demanding patient.

Okay... Med time soon. Good night, monkeys. Hopefully I'll be able to get into a semi-painless state before classes start up:-P
